Only the summer is over, not us. We’ll never be over.
Want a towel on a chair in the sand by the sea, want to look through my shades and see you there with me. Want to soak up life for a while in laid back mode.
Summer romances end for all kinds of reasons, but when all is said and done, they have one thing in common. They’re shooting stars, a spectacular moment of light in the heavens, fleeting glimpse of eternity, and in a flash they’re gone.
Sweet Summertime… When you spend all day in your bathing suit and all night looking for it!
I laugh every time I start to think about her, we set that summer out in style. Well, she’s gone, but she left me with a smile, ‘cause she was mine for awhile.
Summertime, I think, is a collective unconscious. We all remember the notes that made up the song of the ice cream man; we all know what it feels like to brand our thighs on a playground slide that’s heated up like a knife in a fire; we all have lain on our backs with our eyes closed and our hearts beating across the surface of our lids, hoping that this day will stretch just a little longer than the last one, when in fact it’s all going in the other direction.
Sun tanned toes ticklin the sand
Cold drink chillin in my right hand
Watchin you sleep in the evening light
Restin up for a long, long night
For a moment in the moonlight when you kissed me in the
night, I felt my heart beat faster knowing things with you
were right. Though in daylight you ignored me and left me
on my own I knew as soon as night struck that I’d have you
all alone. But when the summer days started slowly coming to
an end, I found you turning into nothing more then just a
friend. And now that summers over and it turns into the fall.
It seems as though I lost you, I don’t mean anything at all.
Yet somehow now I don’t miss a thing; You were just
another summer fling.
One restless summer we found love growin’ wild on the banks of the river on a well beaten path, It’s funny how those memories they last.
It’s gonna be another flip flop summer. Kick off your shoes, and call up your lover. Say hey baby, the winter is over, let’s head south awhile. We’re going to take us a long vacation, mix us up some strong libations. No worries, just good vibrations and lazy days in style. It’s a flip flop summer.
Let’s sail away, where no problems can find us. We’ve got 90 days to watch that ole Tequila sun rise and leave all our troubles behind us.
A picture’s worth a thousand words but not worth the words I need to hear. I miss you so much that it hurts, and tonight, I wish you were here with me so I could make you see the stars, they lay across the sky so perfectly. They remind me of all the times, when we used to sit underneath them, those summer nights and fall in love.
A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken.
You make me melt like a popsicle on the fourth of July.
The Little Rascals
What is one to say about June, the time of perfect young summer, the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade.
In summer, the song sings itself.
William Carlos Williams
Oh, when the sun beats down and burns the tar up on the roof
And your shoes get so hot you wish your tired feet were fire-proof
Under the boardwalk, down by the sea, yeah
On a blanket with my baby is where I’ll be
Did you think this summer that there was any way that you would fall in love with me? Did you ever imagine that everyone would say we were perfect for each other? I did, and that’s why I didn’t give up after months of fighting for you.
I still recall every summer night like it was yesterday.
Story of The Year
The world was somewhere else. We had the summer all to ourselves, and the stars went off like fireworks.
As we waitin’ for the sweet summertime
Yes it’s so sublime
Grab the tequila don’t forget the lime
Put your name on my bottle
So I know you’re mine
It’s funny how one summer can change everything. It must be something about the heat and the smell of chlorine, fresh cut grass and honeysuckle, asphalt sizzling after late-day thunderstorms, the steam rising while everything drips around it. Something about long, lazy days and whirring air conditioners and bright plastic flip flops from the drugstore thwacking down the street. Something about fall being so close, another year, another Christmas, another beginning. So much in one summer, stirring up like the storms that crest at the end of each day, blowing out all the heat and dirt to leave everything gasping and cool. Everyone can reach back to one summer and lay a finger to it, finding that exact point when everything changed.
Sarah Dessen (That Summer)
But summer had a way of making her smile and feel happier. It was sort of amazing how for those months of summer she always believed in herself and all that she could be.
There’s a wild, wild whisper blowning in the wind calling out my name like a long, lost friend. Oh, I miss those days as the years go by. Oh, nothing’s sweeter than summertime and American honey.
And I’m staring at the sign
Searching for a piece of that sweet summertime
I wanna be it
Wanna believe it
I wanna open up my eyes I wanna see it
I wanna feel it in my soul, heart, body, and mind
I wanna get up for that sweet summertime
No shoes, no shirt, no problems. Blues, what blues? Hey I forgot ’em. The sun and the sand and a drink in my hand with no bottom…
Everybody needs a little bit of sunshine. Everybody needs time to unwind. Everybody’s gonna have a good time. I’m just a summer girl.
